Allison Abraham-Kirby Artist Statement

Allison grew up in the desserts of Arizona, and on Long Island, NY. Influenced towards art at a very early age by her father who was a screen printer, embroiderer, and artist and her mother who was a seamstress. One of her fondest memories as a child was playing around the belt dryer and seeing all the beautiful hand pulled designs rolling off the press. She remembers looking at all the buckets of ink as if they were jars of candy... "I felt like a kid in a candy shop, or an artist in an artist supply store”.

She began selling art commercially to restaurants at age 15 and has done many commissioned art pieces. She took many AP Art classes, was a member of the "Art Without Walls" School of Art in high school and graduated with honors before attending Manhattan's Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), graduating Magna Cum Laude in Illustration.

After college she moved to the Southwest to explore nature and soon met her husband Pete.  She worked as a graphic artist specializing in apparel design for ten years.  At Dr. Lucky’s screen printing she learned about the design world and eventually headed up the Junior apparel line. She later designed for companies like Coco Cola, Mellow Mushroom, Sloppy Joe's and then boutique's like Yellow Rat Bastard, and Peace-Love-Mom. Also major department stores like Nordstroms.

Her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Cindy Crawford, Sharron Osbourne and featured in art and subculture magazines like the Yellow Rat Bastard.
